Ballymun Civic Centre atrium until end of February 2010
The Ballymun Boiler house site was put forward by BRL for the Europan 10 competition.
Europan is a European-wide competition that is held every 2 years. This is the second year that Ireland has been involved in the competition, two sites were put forward - one in Galway and one in Dublin. The Irish element of the competition was funded by the Department of the Environment Heritgae and Local Gevernment and organised by the RIAI (Royal Institue of Architects of Ireland).
The objective of Europan is to bring to the fore Europe's young architecture professionals and to publicise and develop their ideas. Its objective is also to help cities to find innovative architectural and urban solutions for the transformation of urban locations. 30 entries from all over Europe were received for the Boiler house site and the standard of entries was very high. BRL are very pleased with the design solution proposed by the winning entry , however the future development of the site is dependant on the generation of a succesful funding mechanism and improved market conditions.
The presentation of prizes to the Irish winners by Minister Gormley took place on the 28th January in Ballymun Civic Centre. The exhibition of the entries for the Ballymun site was opened at this event and will be open to the public in the atrium of the Civic Centre until the end of February. All comers welcome!
